Charity matchfunding in a difficult year

Stannah employees have a fantastic record raising money for charity but 2020 proved to be a difficult one.

So many of the events that staff normally enter to raise much needed funds for charity were cancelled due to the pandemic.  Undeterred though, people thought of ways to continue in their efforts.  For some people this meant volunteering in the local communities instead

To qualify for match-funding staff have to pledge to raise a minimum of £100 for their chosen registered charity either in a one-off event or a series of events.  Compared to the previous year, applications were understandably been low but all those received were completed.

Cycling proved to be the most popular with over 5700 miles covered. This included Jayne Lee, our Group Credit Manager, who clocked up an amazing 5000 miles throughout the year, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.  Part of this challenge involved tackling the famous Coast to Coast ride from Whitehaven in the west to Tynemouth in the east with several of Stannah’s branch managers.

Darren Cooper, Head of Operations Support, deserves a mention as well for tackling 2000 kilometres (1242 miles) on his rowing machine at home, to cover the distance from his home to Italy, all in aid of Parkinson’s UK.  The virtual route took him through some great wine-making regions in France and Italy.  Being a keen oenophile, he tried wines from the areas he passed through and documented them on his Instagram page @darrenwinetime.

With running, walking, kickboxing, jumper wearing and Christmas box filling, collectively staff raised £13,462.50, which when match funded by Stannah gave charities in the UK almost £27,000, a tremendous effort from everyone involved.

Stannah are delighted to be able to continue to run the 100% match funding scheme in 2021 and with applications already coming in we are hoping that even more people will apply and even more money will be raised.
