Stannah Sponsors an Award at The New Designers Exhibition for a Second Year Running

Stannah, one of the UK’s leading stairlift manufacturers, has for the second year in a row sponsored the New Designers exhibition with the Joseph Stannah Award.

The founder of the company, Joseph Stannah, was a great supporter of education in engineering and 150 years on, Stannah are just as passionate about innovative design. They are proud to support rising talent who are creating products that promote independent living and address real life problems. After being inspired by Jake Paisley who exhibited at NDA in 2017, the Joseph Stannah Award was introduced to the annual exhibition. Jake later became a full-time employee at Stannah.

In 2018, the first award was received by Josh King for his leading-edge device, Ally. Runner up that same year, Emily Knott,  completed a 6-week paid placement with Stannah based in the design office after exhibiting her device, ROMA.

The next generation of visionary designers will come together for a two-week celebration in London this summer to showcase 3,000 creative unseen ideas, products and trends.  The appointed Stannah judging panel will present the Joseph Stannah Award on 3rd July 2019.

About Stannah

Stannah is a world-leader in lifting products supplying stairlifts, passenger lifts, escalators and moving walkways, vertical platform lifts, goods and service lifts.  It is one of Britain’s leading engineering companies and remains an independent, family owned and run firm. The company’s experience of the lift industry is unsurpassed, originating in cargo lifts in the 1860s. In 1975, Stannah designed its first affordable, quick-to-install and easy-to-use stairlift and has since sold over 700,000 stairlifts worldwide.

Stannah is run today by fourth generation joint chairmen Alan and Brian Stannah, who launched the revolutionary Microlift and Maxilift in the 1960s and the Stannah stairlift in the 1970s. Today they are supported by the fifth generation of the family – Jon, Patrick, Alastair, Nick and Helen – who are proud torchbearers for Stannah’s long-held family spirit and traditions.
