WINNER – Apprentice of the Year 2018!

Charlene was proud to join Stannah – becoming a part of the company’s history of employing talented young engineers.

Apprentice of the Year 2018!

With one year under her belt, Charlene has been crowned ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at an award ceremony held in Trades House, Glasgow City Centre. She was given this for her consistent hard work and dedication over the last 12 months since starting college at Glasgow Clyde College in Anniesland and achieving outstanding results in her academic and practical work.

Charlene received a nice trophy and £50.00 from the College and comments:

“This is the icing on the cake. My apprenticeship is going well and to be recognised for my application to my studies is very pleasing. The trophy will remind me to study hard and reap the rewards in my lift engineer career. Thank you to everyone involved for their support.”

If you ask her colleagues at our Glasgow office, they will tell you that it is no surprise at all that Charlene is already off to a fast start, servicing and maintaining lifts on Stannah’s portfolio right across Scotland. Nearly a year since starting, we asked Charlene how she’s finding the apprenticeship:

“Stannah has always been a part of my family, my Dad started as an apprentice here and was always telling me how good the company was to work for and I saw an opportunity advertised online. It’s a family company and I have grown up knowing everyone at the Glasgow branch. When I visited Andover for my training everyone knew who I was when I mentioned my Dad (Andy Morton). The company always takes your best interests at heart and backs their employees 100%. There is no typical day in my role, we could be carrying out a service visit in Glasgow City centre and then receive a call out to a non-operational lift in Gretna, no two days are ever the same, it’s so different.I am glad I was given the opportunity to become a Stannah apprentice. I’m only just coming to the end of my first year and have learned so much, even heard funny stories about my Dad from his days as an apprentice! Everyone within the Glasgow branch is approachable and always offer help with any college work I may need help on. Stannah is by far the best company I have worked for and hopefully one I will spend a lot of time at.”

Our founder, Joseph Stannah, started the business with a strong emphasis on educating the next generation of engineers and 5 generations on his family still keenly practice this philosophy today. Charlene is currently working on her SVQ 2 at college along with an NC in Electrical Engineering and is progressing very well.

Charlene hasn’t been with us for long but is already looking to the future, offering the following advice to any other aspiring young engineers:

“Take every bit of advice you can get on board, learn and have fun, it’s a brilliant company who look after their employees well.”

Could you be our next apprentice? With over 150 years engineering heritage, Stannah remaining as committed as ever to the recruitment, and development talented young people – find out about our apprenticeship scheme or take a look at our open roles.
