Stannah Project Manager & Design Engineer complete Charity Cycle Challenge
Craig Hazelden, Project Manager from the Major Projects Department and Design Engineer Matt Martin from Stannah Lift Services Ltd successfully completed a gruelling 9-day charity cycling challenge, from Land’s End to John O’ Groats to raise funds for 3 charities.
Described as the most challenging cycling experience available, the route covers a total distance of 969 miles over 9 days; setting off from the coves of Cornwall and finishing at the lochs and mountains of Scotland.
The 3 charities chosen by Craig and colleague Matt Martin were, The Silver Line, Cancer Research UK and the Winton Pre-School, local to Andover’s Head Office.
Craig admits that although he enjoyed the experience, there were times that it was stressful, with high-points and inevitable low-points, such as the many mechanical problems they encountered along the way and one afternoon of constant heavy rain.
What kept the two going though was the tremendous support and the many donations they had received. Due to the amount of fundraising received, Craig and Matt were determined that they were not going to let anyone down.
Craig says that there was no better feeling than when they saw the John O’Groats signpost and this sight was made even better when they realised it was downhill!
Despite just how challenging the charity cycle event was to complete, Craig says he is, “extremely proud to have completed this charity cycle and it’s definitely something I would do again.
I’m massively grateful to everyone who donated and for all the support from the Major Projects team. In particular Darin Haick and John Ottaway, who dropped us off in Cornwall and collected us from Scotland.”

Thanks to the pledge by Stannah to fund-match any sponsorship money by 150%, to mark their 150th anniversary, the final fundraising total reached a whopping £5310.05.
