Stannah take on Dragon Boat Challenge for Rainbows Hospice!
On Sunday 6th August, a team of dedicated fundraisers from the Midlands East branch of Stannah Lift Services, braved the Dragon Boat Challenge, to raise funds for Rainbows Hospice.
Part of the Nottingham Riverside Festival, this was the 9th year of the Dragon Boat Challenge and up to 50 crews took part in the 200m race course, set on the River Trent at the Victoria Embankment. Thousands of spectators were on hand on the day to cheer on the challengers.
The cheerful crew assembled by Sam Smith, Office Manager was made up of: Ian Crummack, Richard Willetts, Laura Clarke, Thane Beardsley, Keith Wilkinson, Henry Cawley, Josh Phillips, Jason Coopey, Matt Barker and Jonathan Cooke.
Despite a cold blustery start to the day, the team carried on smiling until the finish line and boat number 7 finished in 29th place out of 44 challengers.
The team has managed to raise a whopping £370 and, thanks to the pledge from Stannah to match funds raised by 150 per cent (to mark this year’s 150th anniversary), the grand total has already reached £925.
Sam Smith, who put together the team said that the group were, “delighted with the amount of money raised, and had thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the challenge.”
The funds raised will help to support the important work of Rainbows Hospice who help to support terminally ill children and young people as well as their families.
