Mission accomplished!

Stannah employee excels in the Trois Etapes and Prostate Cancer UK wins a bonus too!

Chris Burns was on a mission. The mission was to raise £6500 for Prostate Cancer UK before he then jumped on his bike to take part in the real challenge of taking part in Trois Etapes.

Cycling mission accomplished, fundraising almost there!

The cycling mission – Trois Etapes

This ultimate competitive pro-am cycling experience was made up of 14 teams, all cycling for charity, competing over four days. It was a mini Tour de France comprising of a flat prologue ride followed by 3 mountain stages of the actual Tour de France!

DAY 1 – Prologue ride over a 9.5km undulating course
DAY 2 – 110km ride with a climb going on for 20km
DAY 3 – 135km with a timed uphill section of 56km
DAY 4 – The final ‘Pièce de résistance’ is a 72km stretch with two ascents of 950m and 1100m up the Col de la Madeleine!

Chris lived his cycling dream and finished an individual 10th in the prologue ride, beating many professionals in the process.

And by finishing 4th overall in the team event Chris and the Prostate Cancer UK team earned their charity a $18,500 bonus.

Chris’ comments:

“This prize was a fantastic reward for the team and all our extremely supportive professionals who really did make dreams come true. The whole event was so well organised and I know I can speak for all the team when I say how much we enjoyed our achievement. (Possibly not at some points in the climbs, but it always feels good in hindsight!)”

The fundraising mission – £1500 to go!

Chris explains his final challenge:

“I must thank all my supporters so far. I say ‘so far’ because I still have to complete my personal fundraising target of £6,500 – this was the requirement of entry qualification.”

“I’m delighted to say that I have reached £5,000 and we still have another fundraising event to go. My amazingly supportive family, friends and work colleagues have got me this far and I can’t thank them enough. Although I work in Tyne & Wear for the Stannah group, on Sept 7th my Stannah colleagues at head office in Andover are joining me for a 100 mile bike ride in Hampshire. Together we hope to raise enough to cross that £6,500 barrier and then I can truly say mission accomplished!”

Chris has organised quizzes, parties and, of course, bike rides to bring in the funds.

Colleagues at Stannah’s head office in Andover, Hampshire have been lending their support by organising cake sales, sponsored walks, cycle rides and a company-wide raffle to win an extra day’s holiday – one of Chris’s! Ahhh!

The fundraising continues on Chris’s triumphant return from the Trois Etapes with a 100-mile bike ride on 7th September enjoying the company of a growing team of colleagues and supporters in ‘Nelson’s Tour de Test Valley bike ride’ in Hampshire, including his Managing Director!

If you would like to join them on their 100 mile circuit of celebration (with options to do just part of the ride) please give Stannah a call on 01264 384740 and register for the ride. We’d love to meet you and raise even more for Prostate Cancer UK.
