Stannah celebrates 2021 National Apprenticeship Week
This year’s National Apprenticeship Week theme is ‘Build the Future’ and Stannah is doing just that! Regardless of the limitations, Covid-19 has imposed on every industry, Stannah has found new ways & training techniques to assist our apprentices. Since the founding of our company, we have been actively supporting young aspiring engineers to join our apprenticeship roles. And we continue to do so, following the example Joseph Stannah set back in 1867.
We asked some of our most recent apprentices to share their stories, experiences and give us an insight into the life of a Stannah apprentice.
For all the decision to apply for Stannah is driven by the impact Stannah makes to everyday lives, a motive for them to become part of the Stannah family. Harvey, one of our non-engineer apprentices, recently starting his Quantity Surveyor apprenticeship with us, adds that “Growing up in Andover, I have always known of Stannah and I have had family members work here in the past, hearing nothing but good things.” As Jake, Apprentice Lift Engineer confirms “I liked the fact that Stannah is a family company with a great set of values. I felt like this company was the best place for me to progress.” When quizzed about what matters most to Stannah, our trainees agreed that safety lies in the core values, as James highlights “Always work safe and if it’s not safe then don’t do it – following our number one rule”. Whatever we do, we make sure it’s safe for both our staff and customers, more so during a pandemic.
When we asked them what is the main thing they’ve learnt from Stannah so far; Jake replied that Stannah “treat their people and engineers with the utmost respect, the standards are very high, they make sure the customer is happy.” While others like Muhammad, Trainee Lift Engineer, focussed on the lift engineering practical knowledge and “how various components and different lifts work, and how they operate alongside each other.”
Our trainees are confident that Stannah provides them with the tools and opportunities to further progress their career development; as Ellis, Apprentice Lift Engineer (Repairs Team) confirms “Stannah helps you to improve your future with extra training and new courses”. And with Jay, Apprentice adding that he’s “learnt different skills by working on the job.”
Apprentices are a vital part of the Stannah family, with their enthusiasm, hard work and positive outlook they bring a fresh approach to work. If you’re interested in applying for any of our apprentice programs please visit our dedicated page, the roles vary from apprenticeships for the Lift Service & Repair Engineers to Administrator/Office Junior.
And for any budding applicants any words of advice on being an apprentice? As Apprentice Lift Engineer, Jake neatly says, “Don’t be afraid to ask questions and I would say always turn up on time.” This last statement would have made our founder very proud as he highly valued the habit of punctuality – his fourth rule in the 12 Joseph Stannah’s Rules of Life.
